BELMEKEN High Mountain Sports Complex
We are delighted to introduce you to Belmeken High Mountain Sports Complex located on a plateau at 2050 meters above sea level between Rhodope Mountain and Rila Mountain, close to Rila National Park and Belmeken Dam.
Belmeken High Mountain Sports Complex is world-renowned for its clean environment and picturesque scenery. With its unique environment, altitude and facilities offered, the complex has only one analogue in Europe, namely Sierra Nevada Ski and Sports Resort in Spain.
Belmeken High Mountain Sports Complex is a favourite training place for athletes from all over the world, including Russia, Ukraine, Germany, Norway, Japan, Australia, etc.
The nearest town is Velingrad. You can get there by your personal car or you can rent one at the complex.
Belmeken can be reached by car from Sofia via Belovo or Velingrad. The distance is 140 km and the roads are well-maintained.
Belmeken High Mountain Sports Complex was built in 1968. It was later reconstructed and upgraded from 2003 to 2005. The site is open all year round having its own security guarded car park of 50 parking spaces.
Belmeken High Mountain Sports Complex offers excellent sports training facilities, being particularly suitable for individual or family recreation, as well as for organized tourism for groups of children or students.
The wonderful climate and nature, along with the safe environment, clean air and high altitude provide for the conducting of mountain climate therapy.
The site could also be used for study and teaching purposes. The sports complex offers very good opportunities for training and recreational activities.
We provide the opportunity to conduct medical and biological research and control.
Sports training and exercise at our site provide for the improvement of the overall physical condition and performance. The food we offer meets modern requirements and ensures fast physical recovery of the athletes.

Sports facilities
Football pitch
Dimensions – 100 m. / 60 m. with an athletic track without lighting. It is used for the preparation of football teams and athletes. The length of the track is standard, 400 m with 5 corridors and a court cover / chamotte /.
Biathlon shooting range
Belmeken High Mountain Sports Complex has two biathlon shooting ranges designed primarily to carry out summer biathlon training and races. There are corresponding routes for the racing part with paths to the shooting range. The shooting ranges are built according to the requirements. They have 10 shooting corridors 50 meters away from the targets. There is no lighting.
There is an asphalt car slider track which is 2200 m long and 3 m wide and 10 corridor shooting range.
Covered rowing simulator
With a total area of 420 sq. m., intended for the preparation of rowers, equipped with a stationary training simulator. The lighting is luminescent; the heating is with a gas calorifier. Excellent condition after a thorough repair in 2010.
Rowing base of dam Belmeken
With a total area of 2300 sq. m. including booth hangars, dressing rooms and sanitary facilities. Repair was done in 2010. The lighting is luminescent and the heating is with convection heaters.
Sports game hall – 53/24/7.5 m.
Designed for volleyball, basketball, handball, athletics, sports and rhythmic gymnastics, indoor football, indoor tennis, badminton. There are basketball baskets, volleyball nets and gymnastics flooring, and a high jump mat. The lighting is luminescent and the flooring is parquet.
Wrestling hall – 23/11/4 m.
Designed for wrestling, judo, sambo and various martial arts. It is equipped with two new mats and flooring parquet. The lighting is luminescent and the heating is with air-conditioning and a ventilation system with fresh air inlet. The hall is equipped with new mats.
Gym – 22/11/4 m.
Designed for general physical training. The gym meets the international requirements. There is parquet flooring with special rubber coating. The lighting is luminescent and the heating is with air-conditioning and a ventilation system with fresh air inlet. The gym is equipped with the latest fitness equipment of the company Sybex.
Boxing hall – 23/9,5/4 m.
Designed for boxing, judo, sambo, karate. It is equipped with 2 rings, wall pillows, boxing balls and punching bags, judo tatami mats. There is parquet flooring and lighting is with mercury-vapour lamps. The heating is with air-conditioning and a ventilation system with fresh air inlet.
Hall for general physical training – 5.6/9.5/3 m.
Designed for the general physical training of swimmers, rowers, biathlonists and others. Equipped with simulators and concepts. There is parquet flooring, luminescent lighting, and the heating is with air-conditioning and a ventilation system with fresh air inlet.
Weightlifting Hall – 18/9.5/4 m.
Designed for weight lifting and general physical training for the other types of sport. It is equipped with 7 podiums, 4 press racks, 7 weightlifting sets Eleiko. There is parquet flooring with special rubber coating. The hall meets the international requirements for training facilities. There is luminescent lighting, and the heating is with air-conditioning and a ventilation system with fresh air inlet.
Indoor swimming pool – 25/12.5 m. and 5 corridors
Dimensions of the premises 30/18/5 m. Designed for swimming training, water polo, synchronized swimming.
It is equipped with all the necessary facilities to conduct a training process.
To the swimming pool there is also:
- Dressing rooms for men and women
- Showers
- Sanitary facilities
- Small swimming pools for men and women with dimensions 2/3/1.5 m
Terracotta flooring tiles, LED lighting, the heating of the swimming pool is with air-conditioning and of the auxiliary premises with local heating. The swimming pool meets the requirements of FINA.

The hotel
The hotel is a 2-star hotel and consists of 3 buildings. It has a total of 256 beds distributed in 82 rooms with two beds and 25 rooms with three beds and 6 apartments. There is a covered walkway between buildings 1, 2, 3 and the sports halls.

Building 1
A massive three-storey building. It has 44 rooms with two beds and 3 apartments.
Building 2
A massive four-storey building. It has 34 rooms, 25 rooms having two beds, 6 rooms having three beds and three apartments.
Building 3
A massive two-storey building. It has 32 rooms, of which 16 rooms have two beds and 16 rooms have three beds.
The complex also offers a conference room with the most modern equipment for 40 people.
Transport services are provided for meeting and sending the teams from Sofia Airport to Belmeken and back, as well as excursions on request to nearby locations and towns.
Catering:
Belmeken High Mountain Sports Complex has a 2-star restaurant with 170 indoor seats, and a 2-star café-bar with 64 indoor seats.
